FAQ

1.  Why should I join your Farm Share?  Can’t I just get your vegetables at the Farmer’s Market?
We reserve the best crop of vegetables for our Farm Share members.  Our Farm Share members are our first priority, and we plan our season around fulfilling our commitment to our members.  We love all of our customers dearly, but our Farm Share members invest in us financially and make our farm business possible!  Your vegetables will be carefully harvested for you each week, set aside in advance, and reserved just for you.  It is the best way to experience the wonderful variety of crops that our farm has to offer.

2. Is the produce organic?
We are Certified Naturally Grown, which means we are inspected and certified to be following the same national standards used for Organic Certification.  We use organic potting soil and fertilizer, and no chemical fertilizers, herbicides, fungicides, or pesticides are ever used on your food.  We believe we are growing some of the cleanest (and most nutritious) produce around!

3. What are the advantages of joining your Farm Share?
We believe the benefits are endless!  It’s part of why we do what we do.  In addition to supporting the local economy, you are receiving the freshest, most nutritious produce possible.  You have the choice to be exposed to new vegetables and experiment with new ways of cooking.  Children typically favor food from “their” farm, even vegetables they have never been known to eat.  And you will develop a relationship with us, the farmers who grow your food and learn more about how your food is grown.

4. When does the season run and what is my investment?
Our Farm Share season runs from May to November, and you choose a weekly or every-other-week share.  Your cost is $28.50/weekly share for a “regular” size (6-7 items), or $36.50/weekly share for a larger share (8-10 items). For pick up anywhere besides the farm, delivery costs an additional $1.50/week’s share.

5. What is the payment schedule?
25% due at sign up
25% due by the first pick up week of the season
The remaining 50% is charged to your credit card on file each week that you have a share
OR – You may pay in full at sign up

6. How many people does a Farm Share feed?
This is a tricky question because each family’s eating habits are different.  We have some couples who purchase our weekly Farm Share and say it is just the right amount for them, while we have some families of four who say it’s just a little too much for them.  It really depends on your eating habits, how much you cook at home each week, and how much your family loves vegetables!  We have had many families tell us they are able to eat more vegetables because of us, and their children are willing to eat more because our vegetables taste so much better than your average store bought veggies.

7. Can I split a share?
Yes, if you coordinate with the person you would like to split it with on your own.  We are unable to split shares on the farm, and please note that sometimes there may be items that are difficult to split (ie. a head of broccoli or cabbage or a zucchini). The best way to “share a share” is to alternate pick up days.

8. What will be in my share each week?
Over the course of the season we grow more than 50 different varieties of produce. We aim for a choice from 15-25 different items we harvest each week, and the contents will vary according to the season or weather conditions.  We send out an email prior to your delivery date letting you know what your customized share contains. Each week you will have a window of time to make changes to your share or order extras if you like. You can now easily add a loaf of our bread to a week’s share, or order extra salad to plan for a dinner party.  We specialize in greens, so we aim to provide our members with salad and/or cooking greens each week of the season.  If you would like to see samples of our weekly shares, please click here.

9. Can I pick and choose what is in my share each week?

After signing up for our Farm Share, the software we use, called Harvie, will provide you with a list of all the crops that we grow and you will rate each item from 0 (“I never want it in my share”) to 5 (“I love it!”). Based on your preferences and our seasonal harvests each week, Harvie chooses what will go in your share and sends a notification to you about your share. Each week you will have a window of time to make changes to your share or order extras if you like.

10.What if I miss a pick up day?
We cannot guarantee that your share is available for pick up at a different time or place than what you have signed up for. However, we know that we all slip up from time to time and we aim to bring unclaimed shares back to the farm as soon as possible. Please email us to arrange to come out to the farm and pick up your share the next day.

11. What if I will be out of town?
You can simply indicate that you want to reschedule a week’s share. To make up for this, you can double up on a share of vegetables later in the season.

12. Should I bring my own bags to pick up?
Yes, please! We ask that our Farm Share members bring their own bags for picking up their produce. We often have extra plastic bags around, but it’s much more eco-friendly to bring your own. Typically 2 good sized bags are enough.

13. I get really excited when I open a box full of kale, lettuce, radishes, tomatoes, peppers, and more. I enjoy getting creative with my meals, and experimenting with new vegetables. Should I join your Farm Share CSA?
Yes, you sound like you would really enjoy our Farm Share CSA.  Please choose the right pick up spot for you and sign up today!

14.  I think vegetables are an important part of my household’s diet but I find the vegetables in the grocery store to be lacking in flavor and freshness. Should I join?
Yes!  You will be amazed at the difference in flavor and nutrition when you get your vegetables from us. Most of our vegetables are picked the day before your delivery, and only travel a short distance to get to you! The benefits to buying nutrient dense, organic, local produce are endless.

15.  Should I join your farm share if I don’t like to eat a lot of greens or salads?
We understand everyone has different diets and routines, but we also don’t want you to be overwhelmed by the amount of greens you will receive over the course of the season. We love greens here, we love to grow them for our customers, and we have a great reputation for growing high quality greens! Our salad greens and cooking greens are much more delicious than anything else you can buy, and you can usually swap out greens in your share for something else. But if eating a significant amount of greens isn’t going to be part of your routine, then our Farm Share is likely not the right fit for you.  Unless you are committed to a drastic diet change or plan to share your greens with a dear friend or neighbor, purchasing our vegetables via a farmers’ market may be the best choice for you.

16. Can I visit the farm?
We hold a Farm Share Member Social in the fall (when there isn’t a prohibitive pandemic!) for a chance to say “Thank you!” for being a member, allow you to meet other members, and enjoy the farm together. Our farm stand is always open during the season for you to visit , and while we can’t stop work and give you a tour of the farm, we love having our customers visit.
