Dirt on Your Food; Mkts & Orders for 8/3

Before a couple of notes on dirt, please know this:

– Our next Farm Tour is Saturday, September 28th at 4:00 pm. Please join us for a walking tour of our farm and let us explain and show you key concepts of small scale, sustainable agriculture. No fee, family friendly. Please: no pets.

– CSA Members (Farm and Market Shares): Save the date for our 2013 CSA Potluck on Saturday, September 28th at 5:30 (immediately following our tour). We will casually dine together, surrounded by the rows of vegetables that have been feeding us all this season. Join us beforehand for the tour, or just show up with a dish to share for the Potluck. We’ll provide water, tea, and plenty of answers to your questions about our farm. Watch for an invitation to which you can RSVP. 076

Now – Dirt. We depend on it. We pay attention to it. We feed it.

101

We grow your food in it.

085 (this is Sesame Leaf, growing at the request of our Korean family members. It will be ready in time. Recipe ideas to tempt you here.)

And some dirt stays on the food we provide for you. Namely – onions, garlic, and potatoes. Why do we give you food with dirt on it?

1 – Because it grew in the dirt

2 – Because it grew in healthy dirt (really, we call it soil)

3 – Because the dirt helps it cure

074

We trust that you will enjoy coming into contact with a little of the soil that is feeding you, and that you don’t mind brushing off a bit of soil before enjoying the food. We will stay busy tending the summer vegetable plants and planting fall vegetables.
