The ice on the trees is really quite beautiful. And it’s warm enough for the roads to be safe, so we are pretty well thrilled with this weather pattern.
Food is still happily growing in all three greenhouses, and we are still pulling it in and packing it up for your enjoyment and nutrition.
The list of outside things to get done is very long, but we are balancing small bits of work in this 32 degrees and raining weather with work inside: Farm business/paper/computer work while nestled around the woodstove.
How to Get Our Food Update:
We are keeping the Self-Serve Farm Stand alive here, with all supplies tucked in the walk-in cooler while it’s raining. So, please stop by this week to load up on salad, roots (carrots, turnips, sweet radishes), lettuce, and more. (These are the items we have in great quantity, so you can be assured they are in the self-serve area. Other items on the harvest list below we have in lesser quantity.) Today there are microgreens in stock! But they likely won’t last long.
We will be at the South of the James Winter Market this Saturday, Dec 14th (despite previous assertions otherwise), but likely not again until March. (Winter market is at the same location as summer, but different format and hours: 9am-12pm.)
This week’s harvest:
Beets, Carrots, Chard, Cilantro, Collards, Hearty Mix, Leeks, Lettuce, Radish (rose or sweet giant), Salad Mix, Shiitake Mushrooms (dried), Tomatoes (green), Turnips (Hakurei) …plus Pepper Jelly and Naturally Leavened, Hearth Baked Bread (Garlic Loaf).
Market Share CSA Members: Choose your selection through our Online Store to order for pick up on Wednesday. Everyone else: Everything on our tables at the farmers’ market is available for you to purchase and enjoy. Please do!
FYI – Upcoming Events:
One or more of us will be at the following conferences this winter:
Jan 31 – Feb 1, 2014: Virginia Biological Farming Conference (Richmond/Midlothian)
Enjoy ~
