Happy first day of Spring! We are busy broadforking, seeding, potting up, watering. Building (still), rearranging, and really settling into the reality of spring.
There’s a lot of “future” around here right now. Future cucumbers:
Future plums: (This is our family plum tree. Last year yielded zero ripe plums. We’re crossing our fingers for this year.)
But there is some immediate gratification: Current salad. And chard!
And a touch of current beauty (as well as a glimpse at beauty past):
If we lived in a warmer clime, this flower would lead to an apricot (Ume). But these poor dears insist on blooming so early that they always get killed off by cold. We planted this tree knowing this, but also knowing the value of having these gorgeous pink flowers around in February and March. They stand their own, not needing justification by later fruit.

Forest Days at Broadfork Farm
A spring session for Homeschooled students, ages 5-7 and 8-12
On four consecutive Tuesdays (April 22 – May 13) from 9:30am – 1:00pm, we will host a weekly nature based session for homeschooled students, featuring a fusion of forest and farm learning, led by our talented colleague Heather Jeffrey. Cost is $120 per child. Registration available here.

2014 Market Share CSA Members: Choose your selection through our Online Store to order for pick up on Saturday at our farm or Good Health Herbs from 9am – 12:30pm (in Brandermill) or in the Byrd Park area of Richmond on Sunday morning (details in online store.)
Everyone else: Please sign up for our 2014 Market Share CSA and start placing orders now. Our Farm Stand will open up again as soon as there is enough produce to fill it, and we will return to our booth at the farmers’ markets at some point in April.
Our amazing Farm Share CSA provides you with a weekly share of vegetables on Wednesdays, May through September (summer season) in exchange for an investment in our farm in the preceding winter or spring.
