It may be winter, but the farm is buzzing with activity. Seeding is happening everyday and the greenhouse is filling up. Prospective interns for this season have been visiting the farm for interviews. Construction on our new bread oven in the barn-housed Farmstead Bakery is almost complete. CSA spots are close to full. We have a new market schedule for this year. Our spring Plant Sale | Farm Day | Open Barn is scheduled. We have a video on our website now thanks to an amazing group of volunteers. We haven’t even mentioned three other significant projects (two physical, one digital) that are underway, nor our newly hired full-time staff member. There are so many wonderful things going on! Read on for this week’s set of details, and look for more over the coming weeks.
First set of details: CSA Sign up is in full swing! We aim to have most of our Farm Shares purchased by the end of February. SO – We’re celebrating CSA Sign-Up Day on Friday, February 26th. CSA farmers across the country – including us – need your support for a successful future harvest. Buy a share and help us grow! **And**…All Farm Share members that have signed up for their share by the end of the day on 2-26-2016 will receive a complimentary loaf of our organic, naturally leavened, hearth baked bread with their first 2 Farm Shares in May (two weeks = two different types of bread)! Choose our Farm as your pick up for the season = free loaf of bread on each Farm Share pick up day for the first month! Farm Shares run weekly, May – November, and pick up spots for our Farm Share this year are: Wednesdays: At our Farm, at Perk! Coffee in Bon Air, and in Hallsley. On Saturdays: At the Farmers Market @ St. Stephens, and in Summer Lake. {Summer Lake may choose to be on Mondays instead of Saturdays…} Sign up on our website: https://broadforkfarm.net/csa/
Second: Plant Sale | Farm Day | Open Barn! Saturday, April 30th from 10-4. Visit our Plant Sale for the full selection of our Certified Naturally Grown vegetable and herb plants for your garden, plus tour the farm with us at 3:00 to learn how and why we grow delicious and nutritious vegetables for you and your household using only biological, Certified Naturally Grown methods. Soak in our beautiful farm and meet our staff. See your 2016 vegetables growing. Mark your calendars for a fun day which will also include wood-fired oven treats! Driving directions found on our website.
Third: Our 2016 Market Schedule will be as follows: Anyone can purchase our goods at the following:
:: Brandermill Green Market. Saturdays, May – October, from 9-12. This wonderful market has some nice improvements planned for 2016. Plan to stop in! In addition to our amazing vegetables, there are breakfast options, meats, eggs, seafood, goat cheese, pasta, sweet treats, yummy oils and dressings, and fruit.
:: Fall Line Farms and Local Roots Food Co-Op, the Richmond area’s online farmers’ markets. These are vendor-controlled online markets that truly are digital versions of actual markets, with the added benefit of having convenient pick up locations all around town. Open year round, use discount code “broadfork” to waive the subscription fee.
We will continue at the Farmers Market @ St. Stephens this winter and spring (including this weekend!) with our goods available for general purchase. For the main season (May – October) we will likely only have our Bakery products (bread, plus some new surprises for 2016!) available for general sale, with vegetables available only as boxed Farm Shares or Market Share orders. This market is well managed, carefully allowing in only the amount of each type of product for which there are sufficient shoppers. Thank you for your patience as we wait for acceptance details, but know that if you join our CSA, you can pick up your share at this great market in the West End (very close to UofR).
This is enough detail for today! We are picking vegetables tomorrow, and baking bread Saturday morning. We will share more exciting pieces news in the next couple of weeks.
In the mean time…Certified Naturally Grown farm in search of:
:: Twin bed frame and mattress :: Dresser, set of shelves, and/or nightstand :: Desk or equivalent table If you have something sitting around that you can donate, we thank you in advance!
This week’s harvest includes:
Kale, Spinach …plus our Organic, Naturally Leavened Bread.
2016 Market Share CSA Members: Reserve your selection online to pick up Saturday, February 27th at our farm, at Good Health Herbs, or at the Farmers Market @ St. Stephens.
Enjoy ~
