2018 CSA Sign Up Open!; St. Stephen’s Market, Over the River Mart this weekend

Join our Farm Share CSA for 2018!  Sign up is now open for next season. Our Farm Share CSA members are the backbone…the lifeblood…the heart of our farm. Providing pre-season funds and providing the knowledge that approximately half of our planned harvest is bound for pre-determined households is critical for our farm. It literally makes it possible for our farm to exist. THANK YOU! We have thoroughly enjoyed growing food for you in 2017 and look forward to doing so in 2018.

As I (Janet) write this, it is Friday and so we are picking vegetables (I have to get back to that as soon as this email gets sent!). As deeper cold sets in, we harvest less, but we harvest vegetables almost every week of the year, and we bake bread almost every week of the year, so we go to the Farmers’ Market almost every Saturday of the year. Our focus on greens (Salad Greens as well as Cooking Greens) is usually a welcome way to, let’s say, recover from any overindulgences during recent food-oriented celebrations.

So, today visit our self-serve FarmStand for delicious and cleansing greens. Tomorrow, Saturday, visit us at the Farmer’s Market @ St. Stephen’s, which is now indoors through the end of March. We will have vegetables and bread, as per our usual. Sunday, visit us at the Over the River Maker’s Mart in Bon Air for bread, any vegetables that remain, and our Tomato Chutney/”Adult Ketchup” throwback to summer. {Plus: Check out the many amazing, non-edible offerings of our fellow vendors.}

Farm Share Note: Recent weeks shares have been padded a bit heavier in anticipation that our harvests will be lighter in late November. Thus, expect a bit less food in these last weeks’ shares. Final Shares for 2017 are Saturday, Dec 2/Monday, Dec 4.

Farm Shares for Brandermill Green Market: Pick up is at Good Health Herbs this week and next week.

Saturday’s & Monday’s Farm Share will most likely include: 
Salad Mix, Scallions, Carrots, Watermelon Radish, Kale, Sweet Peppers, and hopefully Cabbage and Spinach. (if they thaw…the photos above are of them frozen this morning!)

This week’s harvest (and baking) includes: 
Arugula, Hearty Greens Mix, Microgreens, Salad Mix…and our Organic Hearth Baked Bread (Sunny Greens, Whole Rye, Raisin, Baguettes, & Seed loaves for this weekend)

Anything remaining after CSA shares are distributed and our farm stand is shopped (plus the bread we bake Saturday morning)… we’ll bring to the Farmer’s Market @ St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church in the West End of Richmond.
