When cucumbers and tomatoes go in the ground, we really feel like we’re farming. 

There are only hardy plants in the beds in the fields, but the greenhouses are getting gradually filled with future fruit-bearing plants. (Remember: botanically speaking, tomatoes and cucumbers are fruits. They have seeds inside them.)

But we’re picking delicious leaves and roots to eat now. In addition to our always-a-winner salad mix this week, we have Little Gem Lettuces to offer you:

Hot on the Foodie scene, these Little Gems are like miniature Romaine lettuces with a taste like a Butterhead lettuce. Crisp, sweet, and versatile, they can be enjoyed raw or cooked. We have red and green. Recently featured in the magazine Bon Appetit, here are recipe suggestions:

We continue at the winter version of the South of the James market this weekend in Forest Hill Park, from 9am – 12pm on Saturday. Please stop by! (Brandermill Green Market opens May 3rd.)

2014 Market Share CSA Members: Choose your selection through our Online Store to order for pick up on Saturday at our farm, at Good Health Herbs from 9am – 12:30pm (in Brandermill), at the South of the James Market in Forest Hill Park from 9-12pm, or in the Byrd Park area of Richmond on Sunday morning (details in online store.)

Everyone else: Please sign up for our 2014 Market Share CSA and start placing orders now. Our Farm Stand will open up again once there is sufficient produce to stock it.
