2018 CSA Sign Up…& Farmers’ Market 12.16.17

Reminder: 2018 CSA Sign Up is open here! Join us for our weekly Farm Shares of vegetables next season in order to get the best of our harvest each week. Prepare to fill your diet with delicious, nutritious vegetables! Then read on for this week’s happenings on the farm:

We are about to settle into our winter-time habits around here. (Last week’s snow storm tried to nudge us into winter faster than we were ready to!)

Winter work here is at a slower pace than the warm season, but we only get about a week or two of a true break in the action (ie…vacation). Our crop plan for 2018 is almost complete, we have already placed two major seed orders (just one more to go!…it will be placed before Dec 31), and we have started the interview process for 2018 staff. Meanwhile, we are prepping beds in our fields to rest for the winter (so that they are ready to plant as soon as spring weather allows) and re-organizing some spaces and systems to allow for better flow next season.

We are also graduating our AMAZING class of newbies who joined us this season to learn and work with so much passion and endurance! We are bursting with pride for these wonderful people and are so grateful for all that they have brought to our farm in 2017. They are each going to accomplish beautiful things in this world! We are so appreciative for the chance to teach, learn with, and learn from each of them.

Graduation celebrations yesterday kept this newsletter from getting out on the usual day. Our apologies to you and our thanks for your understanding!

In addition to all of the above, we are still harvesting delicious food for you! Our unheated high tunnels allow us to pick green (and red) goodness for you even when everything outside is frozen.

For the next few months, we are baking bread on Thursdays for sale in our self-serve farmstand, and we are also stocking the farmstand on Thursdays with all the vegetables we can harvest. You should still have a good selection of vegetables on Fridays in the farmstand. On Saturdays, we’ll be vending at the Farmer’s Market @ St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church with our vegetables and bread. Also keep an eye on what we have available via the online farmers’ markets: FallLineFarms.com and Local Roots Food Coop.

Now that you’ve read about how our farm-work spans all twelve months it makes even more sense why we have our 2018 CSA Sign Up open now while it is still fall 2017. Please join us for our weekly Farm Share of vegetables next season! Full details are found on our CSA page, and the link for sign up is found there as well.

This week’s harvest (and baking) includes:
Beets, Collards, Chard, Hearty Greens Mix, Kale, Microgreens, Pea Shoots, Salad, Spinach…and our Organic Hearth Baked Bread (Sunny Greens, Whole Rye, Raisin, Baguettes, & Seed loaves for this weekend)
{Our farmstand is open Thurs & Friday with most of the above items…see here for updated inventory}

2017 Market Share CSA Members: Remember that you can continue to place orders for our goods starting Thursday mornings, regardless of whether this newsletter has arrived in your inbox.

Enjoy ~
Janet, Dan, & the whole Broadfork crew
