Last weekend was the Va Biological Farming Conference. It is our favorite conference in this region, and one we look to for valuable information sharing. We got to learn from our biggest farming hero, author of The Market Gardener (Jean-Martin Fortier pictured with Dan, above), and many others. What an amazing time! This is big fun for farmers (and gardeners, and passionate eaters…) Now we are back on the farm and putting all attention toward this season. Carrots and salad (and bread and pepper jelly) are available for CSA members this weekend —
A woman and her greenhouse is a beautiful thing, yes?
Final planning is still getting plugged into spreadsheets for this season, armed with things that look like this:
So that we do a better job of growing this for you:
A big part of why we are in this business is because we think this sea of lettuce is absolutely gorgeous. Want to see one more up close? Look here:
…or join our CSA and order some salad mix!
Microgreens are growing (above) and many, many seeds are now being started everyday (below).
We’ve rigged this upright freezer (compliments of craigslist) to be a warming chamber.
Check out the outlets now inside of the freezer:
It’s all part of feeding our community. As is the interviewing that we are doing this week for our available crew position. Thanks for being a part of this (along with the chickens and the duck — bonus photo of them at end of post.)
This Week’s Harvest:
Carrots, Salad Mix…plus Pepper Jelly, and our Naturally Leavened, Hearth Baked Bread.
