Our week’s have a particular rhythm around here. It certainly varies with the seasons, but most Fridays are pick-wash-pack days. Saturdays are farmers market and/or delivering CSA orders. Sundays we aim to have as rest days (one big goal for 2014 is for Dan to be able to take Sundays off from farm work). Mondays start back up with orienting crew members to the work ahead. Wednesdays are CSA days.
And Thursdays? Thursdays are farm blog days. Thursdays mornings we take pictures and share with the world what is going on here and how things look.
So we are easily able to pay attention to the fact that this is the 4th Thursday out of the past 5 in which our world has been covered in white.
This has been the most snowfall, and the heaviest, which means pushing it off the greenhouse plastic so that plastic and snow don’t crash down on the greens inside. We’re thankful that most of the snow tapered off by midnight, thereby eliminating the need for 1 am, 2 am, 3 am, and 4 am greenhouse snow maintenance.
Other fun during these snowy days includes the daily chicken-egg hunt. The girls don’t lay hardly any eggs in the winter, and this time of year the birds get complete reign of our place, wandering where they like while there aren’t vegetables for them to bother. This leads us to finding sparse eggs in surprising places, like the abandoned dog house out back.
Thanks to plastic and human labor to push snow off, the view in the greenhouse this morning stays strong:
